A court in Tanzania has jailed opposition leader Tundu Lissu on a charge of incitement, while lifting the treason charge he had faced.
Treason carries the death penalty in Tanzania, and the case had drawn criticism from human rights groups and foreign governments. Mr Lissu, the leader of the Chadema party, survived an assassination attempt in 2017 in which he was shot multiple times.
His supporters say the prosecution was intended to silence the main opposition. The government says the case was a matter for the courts.
